what exactly is microblading?

Microblading is a newer form of semi-permanent eyebrow enhancement, where, through the manual application of inserting pigment into the outer layers of the skin, we are able to imitate individual hair strokes, to create your desired eyebrow shape, fullness and color. The effects can last up to 18 months, after which time the pigment fades naturally.

how long is the actual service?

The actual microblading process is about 30-45 mins. The entire appointment, however, is about 2 hours. This allows for the proper amount of time for the numbing cream to work and for the pre-draw. We will not begin the process unless we both agree on a proper shape for the brows, and agree that they are identical.

how intense is the healing process?

The healing process is very mild, with zero down time. The brows will appear 30-50% darker the first few days after the procedure. During the 14 day healing process they may appear slightly dry and flakey. This is normal. Continue use of aftercare balm. Some of the pigment may lift out a bit during the flaking of the healing process, and reappear once fully healed. It is for those strokes that lose pigment completely, that the enhancement session is mandatory. At this time we can also go a bit darker or add more strokes if desired.

do I need microblading?

Everyone can benefit from enhancing their brows with microblading. Even the fullest and darkest brows look great with some extra attention. However the most ideal clients are those who have sparse brows, areas with scarring or lack of regrowth completely (from over tweezing / waxing over the years), fine brow hair and light colored brows.

how old do I need to be to get microblading done?

You need to be 18 years or older to receive microblading.

will it hurt?

Half of the population who receives this service, finds it uncomfortable and at times slightly painful. Yet not enough pain for them to not return 6 weeks later for the enhancement session. The other half of individuals who receive this service don't feel anything at all. We found that if you numb well at the dentist, you will be ok, and if you typically need more numbing at the dentist, you might find the process slightly uncomfortable.

We do numb throughout the service with topical numbing cream and numbing gel once the skin is broken. This tends to relieve any pain and discomfort one might feel. We can numb a few times if it takes you longer to numb.

will I be able to immediately go to work after the procedure (any down time)?

Because there is zero downtime, you can immediately leave the procedure and go straight to a shift at work if you'd like. No one should even notice a difference unless they are really looking for it. Even with the aftercare balm present, it should be a thin enough layer that it is not noticeable.

why choose microblading over powder ombré brows?

If natural is the look to which you aspire, Microblading is your answer. The technique of natural hair like strokes is a softer look than that of Ombre brows. The shading technique used in Ombre brows with a tattoo gun, gives the appearance of a more bold brow. This is ideal for those clients who wear a full face of makeup daily and are looking for a soft make up/ powdered look once the Ombre brows are healed. Research photos online to see which look best fits your lifestyle.

can I get microbladed while pregnant?

For your safety we ask that you wait until you’re done with pregnancy and breastfeeding for the microblading service.

when do I have to come back?

Microblading is a two part process. At the initial appointment, you will leave with full brows and all your desired hair strokes. Due to the natural process by which pigment is only scratching the first few layers of the epidermis (as opposed to a tattoo done with a tattoo gun, which inserts pigment 6-8 layers into the epidermis) it is common for some of the pigment to lift out of the skin during the healing process. To ensure that your skin accepts all the pigment, and you have your full, desired brows, it is mandatory to return for an enhancement session 6 weeks after the first service.

Anticipate about 12-18 months for the touch up/color boost.

should I clean my eyebrows?

This is, after all, a wound. Though it is a controlled wound we are inflicting on ourselves, we still want to keep the area clean to avoid any signs of infection. Refer to aftercare instructions for how to properly clean the eyebrow area. **Should you see any signs of infection (i.e. hot to the touch, redness, excessive discharge of pus, discoloration, etc) immediately wash brows with antibacterial soap and consult a physician. Antibiotics might be needed.

how long will it last?

Depending on how well you take care of your brows, after the 2 part procedure, and other factors such as skin texture (oily or dry) your brows can last for about 1-2 years. The rule of thumb is to anticipate about 12-18 months, that way the majority of the strokes still exist and it costs less to do the one year color boost.

what are some waxing contraindications (reasons to avoid getting waxed)?

There are quite a few skin thinning medications out there (either for topical use or taken orally) that can be used for combating Acne or Aging. A few main medications are Retin-A topical creams, benzyl peroxide, or anything oral like Accutane or Tetracycline. Please also beware of recent chemical peels or extreme facial treatments and absolutely inform your waxing technician of any of these procedures prior to receiving a waxing service.

For more detailed information, click here.

how long does my hair need to be for the waxing service?

The hair should be a ¼ of an inch, about the size of a grain of rice. It is better to have hair on the longer side, than hair on the shorter side if you are trying to trim beforehand.

can someone come in the treatment room with me?

You may have someone join you in the treatment room if you choose. For those who would like to have your children accompany you, we ask that you have child care during your service to make your experience more enjoyable and quicker.

can I wax while on my menstrual cycle?

You may absolutely wax while on your cycle. Please be advised to have a tampon or Diva cup in during the service. If you wear a tampon during the service, please tuck the string. You may experience extra sensitivity during the service.

can I wax while pregnant?

It is completely safe to get waxed while pregnant. You are even allowed to wax on the day of labor. You may experience extra sensitivity during the pregnancy, but some say the waxing hurts less.

how do I prepare for my wax?

The best way to prepare for your wax is to exfoliate in the shower prior to the service. There are kitty wipes provided at the time of service if you’d like to feel extra clean and comfortable for the wax.

when should I schedule my next wax?

The best way to prepare for your wax is to exfoliate in the shower prior to the service. There are kitty wipes provided at the time of service if you’d like to feel extra clean and comfortable for the wax.

how old do I need to be to get waxed?

Without parental consent, you need to be 18 yrs of age or older to get waxed. With parental consent, you may be any age.

what is the difference between waxing, sugaring and threading?

There are many forms of epilation, which is pulling the hair out by the root. Each person has their preference. We advise trying all forms and deciding which works best and feels most comfortable to you.

Waxing is done using either soft or hard wax. At blush, our signature is using Hard wax (once applied to the skin, dries on its own and removed without using a topical linen cloth) to remove the unwanted hair by the root. Making the process less painful than soft wax hair removal.

Sugaring is a method of removing unwanted hair by creating a sugar wax using just a few ingredients, typically applied at room temperature with just the technicians glove, and rolled on the skin to remove all the hair by the root, using the same ball of sugar wax.

Threading is a form of hair removal using a long piece of twisted thread, moved along the skin, and pulling out hair by the root.

is the waxing service painful?

We use a very high quality hard wax, specially formulated for sensitive skin. This wax provides the most pain free experience, and when combined with Sarah’s technique, makes the experience as comfortable as possible. You may still experience some discomfort, especially if you are on or around your monthly cycle. To ease any pain that you may experience, you may purchase our Numbing Cream (4% lidocaine) that should be applied 20 mins prior to the service.

how long should I wait after my last shave, until I come in for a wax?

This depends on how quickly your hair grows. The general rule of thumb is about 2 weeks, as long as the hair grows to the length of a ¼ inch (about the size of a grain of rice).

my skin is slightly irritated, is this normal?

Skin is fickle. Even though we use top quality pre and post waxing products, as well as the highest quality hard wax with the best polymers in the biz, specially formulated for sensitive skin, irritation can still happen.

If your skin is irritated within the first 24/48hrs after your waxing service, it could be due to the post wax products. These post wax products are used to soothe the skin, close the pores and fight against ingrowns. However, some clients have extremely sensitive skin, and using an all natural antiseptic such as witch hazel can still be enough to clog your pores. Alert your waxing technician of this at your next service, so we can omit the post epilation products.

If your skin is breaking out in tiny white pimples or even showing signs of red tiny bumps days even weeks after your initial wax, you should use an exfoliant scrub that is paraben free and gentle on the skin. This can be due to pores getting clogged and bacteria is rising to the surface (hence the tiny, white bumps) or you could be experiencing some hairs (from another growth cycle) fighting to get through the skin to grow out (hence the little, red bumps).
